We are seeing lockdown and isolation regulations beginning to ease up slightly. Most notably are the guidelines for children starting back to school and day care centres. These changes are welcomed and reflect the behaviour of the Australian population working as one nation to contain the health challenge which we are faced with.
Getting ready for school is a great thing for our children and important for engaging with friends and broader social engagements however; with a view to continued safety to minimise any likelihood of becoming infected with viruses or other nasty pathogens.
A topic often pushed to the back of the conversation list is something called “worms”. Hmmm, it’s just one of those little gems that virtually all Australians at some point in their life have had to deal with and it’s not fun.
Threadworms and Pinworms are the common enemy and easily transmitted by close social contact or in fact passed from pets to humans. Kids, especially young kids at daycare or preschool are vulnerable and we need to be aware of the signs and symptoms of worm infestation.
- Irritability
- Lack of appetite
- Sleep disturbance
- Itchy bottoms
- Lethargy
- Stomach pain
These are common symptoms as is a more definite symptom that being, visual sighting of worms in faeces.
Treatment options are either over the counter products at pharmacy or choosing an herbal preparation such as Triplex®. It’s important to treat worms for a period of time since eggs and adolescent worms may remain in the gut for extended periods. Triplex® is a phased treatment program to ensure eradication of egg laying females and elimination of eggs and adolescent worms.
